This was a really fun activity to do with my son. He loves the solar system and little gems/rocks. We had fun seeing who would have what type of stone in our planet. The clay can be difficult to break through. The instructions say you can soak in water for like 15 mins. We did one after it soaked and it was easier but it did also break in half which sort of defeated the fun of digging. I would probably do a soak for less time. Definitely do this activity outside or somewhere easy to clean up because it does make a mess.

This is a super fun activity for my child. They love gemstones and so to dig them out is very fun for them. I highly suggest soaking it in water for the amount of time it says because it makes it easier to dig. If you want a challenge, though, you could just start digging without pre-soaking the planets. It is really cool that these are in the shape of planets. Space is so neat. We really enjoyed this activity.

We have had a lot of dig and rock kits with our four boys. This one tops them all for educational quality and planning. It teaches rocks, in a fun, hands-on and approachable way. It has addl details to teach about the planets. It's a double-win.Enough planets and rocks, multiple kids could easily share this one set.
